Credit card fraud: Shopto?
It certainly makes you wonder (and worry) that within one week at least 3 members at the PS3ZA forum faced credit-card fraud (here, here and here). Allegedly all users have been using ShopTo.net and I am aware of users who only use a single credit card on ShopTo.net.
While ShopTo.net has denied that there was ever an issue, I strongly believe that fraud has been related to ShopTo (a simple Google search will show you many “coincidences”).
I used to be a loyal ShopTo customer and after spending in excess of EUR 800,00 was eventually banned from ShopTo, as they claimed that I abused their lost-parcel policy (yes, I did claim for two parcels valued at EUR 29,00 each – but those never arrived). So when checking today, that they really removed all my credit card information, I was surprised to see that Safari also alerted me about an invalid SSL certificate (I don’t see the same message on IE and can not really confirm if there is a Safari glitch – but again, another coincidence and the first SSL issue I have ever seen).
My point in the above: Make sure that you only disclose your CC-details to trusted sites and check your credit card statement daily.

Latest petrol price hike increases DSTV pricing
… at least this would be a good enough reason for Multichoice to justify their price increase for PVR/dualview to R 524,00/per month from 1st April. It is amazing that with new competition entering the market towards the end of the year, Multichoice still manages to increase their fees annualy without improving service.
While the rest of the world enjoys high-definition television and subscribers receive free PVRs/Tivo’s as part of the subscription fee, this is obviously not the case with Multichoice. A PVR decoder still costs R 1999,00 and the latest high-def model to be launched will be in excess of R4500.
What’s wrong with the following picture:
SKYTv in UK: for 21 pounds(R328): 300 entertainment channels
SkyTV in UK (£45 ~ R 500): 300 entertainment channels, free UK evening and weekend calls, free broadband (up to 8Mb download speed)
vs. DSTV’s: 75 channels for R469
I use my decoder as a relatively good clock. The red light is just slightly irritating ![]()
OS X: Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.1 Update
Microsoft just released a new update for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac which included numerous fixes to stability & performance. This is almost a mandatory update as it addresses significant bugs in almost all Office components.

Users experiencing crashes in all Office applications will be glad to know that this has been fixed across the board and Microsoft has also fixed a date issue in charts displayed in Word & PowerPoint.
Six issue areas were corrected or improved in Word 2008 specifically, many of which are conversion-related (between various Word versions) and one involved a macro-glitch may have had a nasty impact in a multi-platform shop (as it lay waste to VBA macros in some circumstances).
Eight groups of issues in Excel 2008 have been addressed including a formula bug that you may not have even noticed (formulas were not executed properly under a few scenarios). PowerPoint 2008 is not nearly as sluggish as it has been and you can more confidently sleep/wake your Mac with Entourage 2008 running.
