It seems that the branded car garages of South Africa are just there to rip of the Motor Plan... and the customer, if they can... I think it's time to start a campaign with each car brand's head office to point out these failures. I'd like to think that it would have an effect.
I also have an Alfa Romeo which is known for being terrible yet with the right servicing, in the UK, I never had a problem with them.

I might also add - as a Landy owner in both SA and the UK - that LRSA - and SA car manufacturers in general - take apparent pleasure in gouging the SA consumer.

SA's import restrictions on cars and parts - allegedly to preserve jobs in the auto manufacturing industry - result in South African consumers paying millions of Rands more for service than they would in a "free market" economy.

When you look at the unsafe taxis on the road in SA - a direct result of too-expensive vehicles and parts - you see the folly of this approach. How many deaths are a result each year? How many jobs are really saved?

Of course, the manufacturers are happy with their fat profits in SA. It's like a private club.

It may be helpful to note that TD5 injector loom (the wires which become oil-logged) can be purchased in the UK for GBP25-30. At that price, annual inspection/replacement and the carrying of a spare is not that onerous.

What a coincidence - this is exactly what happened to us, also after a major service......and they have already started 'desensitizing' us for possible additional things that could also be wrong....

@ursa: Remember that the alternative costs I quoted originated from a non-authorized workshop. I have updated my post to reflect the dealerships costs of R 14658.75. The dealership replaced also the wire-assembly (no idea what this is for and was not given a reasonable explanation why I need it - other than "IT HAS TO BE REPLACED") which was the most expensive part.
